Thank you for your interest in Hill Interiors. We are a family owned business based just off the A1 motorway, near Bedale, the gateway to the picturesque Yorkshire Dales.
Here’s a brief amble down memory lane, should you like to learn a little more about our story so far…
1975
Back in 1975 Graham and Joan Hill opened up their first retail unit in the local market town of Thirsk selling antiques and reproduction items sourced locally and from dealers in the West Midlands. Joan and a young Nik can be seen pictured outside the first shop here.
1986
Graham and Joan then discovered a gap in the wholesale market for popular brass and copper products of the time and opened a warehouse on Thirsk Industrial Estate and the wholesale business was then formed. Much smaller in scale than today's, customers would wheel a shopping trolley around the warehouse, piling it with goods to load into their waiting vans.
1988
Graham & Joan’s son Nik joined the business in 1988 working alongside them both. Nik is pictured here at the Gosforth Park Trade Show aged 18, learning the ropes from mum, Joan. At the time, the business was exhibiting at as many as 13 shows each year, mostly regional.
1989
Graham then hit upon an up and coming trend from India and the importation of historical swords, helmets and armour began. Graham then also became involved with the Denix factory in Menorca and negotiated exclusive rights to sell the Denix brand Replica Pistols and Rifles in the UK.
1991
Further expansion on Thirsk Industrial Estate led to the creation of Hill Giftware and their very first showroom which was very different in style to our current showroom and product range.
1996
Nik decided to venture into importation from the Far East and took his first buying trip there in 1996. The foundations were then set for where we are today with the importation of furniture, lighting and decorative accessories.
2000
The growing business meant larger premises were required and so our move to our current location at Oaktree came about. At the time the warehouse was a fraction of the size it is today but the potential was enormous. Every few years we have added to the size of the warehouse, with it now standing at over 100,000 square feet.
2020
One of the first exhibitors at Birmingham Spring Fair, our trade show stands have grown considerably over time. From standard 3 x 3 metre booths up to 2020's biggest bespoke build yet, equal in size to 2 tennis courts. We love a trade show's buzz and definitely see them as part of our expansion story, having met many longstanding customers from far and wide over the years.
PRESENT
Involved from a young age but now entirely willingly, Jasmin and Freddie are the third generation of the Hill family to join the business.
